I am currently working with a DO-student on a project investigating nasal and sinus variation among high-altitude populations. These populations are unique in that they live in both very cold/dry climates and in hypoxic (low levels of oxygen) environments. Both of these pressures is known to put severe stress on the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. But, research into how the upper-respiratory structures (the nose and sinuses) adapt to these pressures has not been undertaken. Until now.
This research has been presented at the 2017 AAPA and AAA meetings, and we are currently writing up a manuscript for review.
